Are you interested in less sleep, a busier schedule and more stress?
I didn’t think so!
If you are serious about optimizing your mental and physical performance it is time to really commit to daily meditation practice.
Meditation has been scientifically proven to increase neuroplasticity, grow the gray matter in your brain, strengthen your immune system and improve sleep.
The trick is, most of think we have to ‘clear our mind’ or that we ‘don’t have time’
Meet Emily Fletcher, my friend and favorite meditation teacher (you may have seen her on The Today Show or in The New York Times) who teaches high performers how to meditate, no patchouli, mala beads, or chanting required.
Below she answers my Top 5 meditation questions:
- Can I meditate if I can’t clear my mind?
Emily says, “This is the #1 myth about meditation. People mistakenly believe that they have to quiet their mind. The REALLY good news here is that the mind thinks involuntarily just like the heart beats involuntarily. So if you’ve ever tried meditation and felt frustrated because you couldn’t quiet your mind listen up… You CAN meditate. You just need the right tools and a bit of training. Meditation is like any other skill, don’t expect yourself to magically already know how to do it.”
- I’m busy. How do I find time to meditate?
“The strange reality is that when you take the time to meditate you end up having MORE TIME in your day. This happens because stress makes you stupid. That may sound harsh, but it’s true. Stress costs your brain and body so much energy, which slows you down. Once you learn how to commit to a daily meditation practice, you’ll find that your to-do list takes less time and you may even need less sleep because you’ll be more efficient. There’s a reason why the world’s top performers (CEOs, pro athletes, top celebrities) are using this as their secret weapon.”
- What if I have tried other styles of meditation and quit?
“Part of my mission is to rid the world of ex-meditators. I want to give people the proper tools to help them fall in love with meditation and get back – and stay – in the saddle. Most people who try and quit meditation never had any real training, or they were using tools that were originally designed for monks. FYI, zivaONLINE [Insert your zivaONLINE Affiliate Link] is designed for people with busy mind and busy lives.”
- How will the Ziva Technique impact my performance?
“The Ziva Technique = The 3 M’s. The 1st M (Mindfulness) helps you to focus at work and alleviate stress in the “now.” The 2nd M, (Meditation), will get rid of old stress from your past which improves performance and creativity. The 3rd M (Manifesting) helps you to get crystal clear (and bring to fruition) your goals for the future.”

- What if I fall asleep when I’m meditating?
“Lots of people think they are falling asleep when they first start a meditation practice. That’s because they are slipping into a different state of consciousness and it can feel very much like sleep. This is why having some training is so important. With the proper guidance, you’ll learn how to distinguish between the two. Short answer: if you fall out of the chair, you probably fell asleep. If you’re still upright, then it’s most likely meditation.”
Thanks Emily for busting these 5 meditation myths!
