Susi Hately is one of the industry’s top yoga therapists and trainers. As a young student of yoga, she began to combine the ancient practices of yoga with her BSc. Kinesiology at a Vancouver pain clinic. When she continued to encounter individuals, including yoga instructors, who accepted that their pain was “normal”, she began to explore how yoga was being taught and practiced. By designing therapy programs that utilized sound anatomical principles of kinesiology with the time-honored practices of gentle yoga she enabled people to find pain relief, feel good, and rediscover vitality in their lives.
Trained in Canada and in India, Susi began teaching yoga in 1999. She is the owner and principal instructor of Functional Synergy Inc., through which she offers an IAYT accredited Yoga Therapy Certification program where she teaches yoga teachers her unique approach for pain management and pain relief. Clients and instructors alike have responded positively to her straightforward, knowledgeable, caring manner that encourages them to understand their bodies and the language it is speaking. With nurturing and discipline, she teaches and motivates.
She is the author of several best selling yoga therapy books and videos and is the founder of the Calm.Steady.Strong yoga program for cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Her programs have been studied at the University of Calgary and her work has set a new standard not only in yoga therapy but in functional movement therapy and helping people prepare for and recover from surgeries, navigate chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus, as well as manage ongoing treatment protocols including radiation and chemotherapy.
